DescriptionThe ECOWAS Commission reaffirmed its strong commitment to modernising customs administrations and facilitating regional trade by showcasing the Interconnected System for the Management of Goods in Transit (SIGMAT) at the 2026 World Customs Organization Technology Conference, held in Abu Dhabi from 28 to 30 January 2026, under the theme “Customs agility in a complex world: securing and facilitating trade through innovation”.
Through this strategic presentation, ECOWAS highlighted SIGMAT as a flagship regional digital solution designed to enhance end-to-end transit management, strengthen cross-border interoperability, reduce trade frictions along key regional corridors and reinforce trust between customs administrations and economic operators, in full alignment with international standards and ECOWAS Vision 2050.
