DescriptionECOWAS and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and deepening strategic partnerships, following a courtesy visit by the newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Nigeria, H.E. Yousef Mohammed Albalawi, to the President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Dr Omar Alieu Touray, in Abuja.
The engagement highlighted shared priorities on peace, security, economic cooperation and regional stability, while underscoring Saudi Arabia’s intention to expand its diplomatic footprint across ECOWAS Member States and enhance support to regional development efforts. Both H.E. Dr Omar Alieu Touray and H.E. Yousef Mohammed Albalawi emphasized that sustainable development remains intrinsically linked to peace and security, and reiterated the importance of coordinated approaches to address emerging challenges, including misinformation and regional instability. The meeting further reinforced the long-standing partnership between ECOWAS and Saudi Arabia, anchored in mutual trust, shared interests and a forward-looking vision for strengthened cooperation.
