The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has been working tirelessly to strengthen maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea. As part of these efforts, the Grand African Nemo 2025 military exercises are underway, involving Cabo Verde, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, and other nations, from the 10th to 17th of November, 2025.
These countries will come together to tackle pressing issues such as maritime piracy, illegal fishing, irregular migration, drug trafficking, and marine pollution. The exercises aim to enhance regional cooperation and improve security in the Gulf of Guinea, a vital waterway for West Africa's economy.
Under the leadership of the Division of Regional Security within the Political Affairs Peace and Security department, ECOWAS is committed to promoting peace and stability in the region. The Grand African Nemo 2025 exercises demonstrates the commission’s dedication to protecting the maritime domain and ensuring a secure environment for economic growth and development.
