DescriptionH.E. General Birame Diop, President of the ECOWAS Commission, received Air Commodore P.P. Okonkwo, Provost of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) Institute of Technology, in Abuja - Nigeria, 20 October 2026. The institute is dedicated to developing skilled manpower and advancing research to support a modern, self-reliant defence industry and reduce dependence on imported military hardware.
During the meeting, Air Commodore Okonkwo pledged his full support for the President’s mandate, recalling his previous service under General Diop at the United Nations. He expressed confidence in the President’s leadership and his team. President Diop appreciated the Provost’s goodwill and called for stronger collaboration with DICON to enhance the operational capacity of the proposed ECOWAS Brigade. The Brigade is expected to support peacekeeping operations, mitigate security threats, and combat terrorism and banditry across the region. The engagement underscored the importance of institutional partnerships in strengthening regional security and advancing ECOWAS’s peace and stability agenda.
