Descriptionhe President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, participated in the High-Level marking the launch of the New Sahel Strategy of the Togolese Republic, held on the 18th on April in Lome, the Togolese Capital. The President of the Commission during his remarks stressed on the unicity of West Africa citizen sharing same the geographical area, culture, history, which cannot be torn down by whatever institutional arrangements, and as such must face together the challenges ahead.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Sahel States, the regional and international organizations, the Special Envoys for the Sahel, and the civil society.
On the margins of the meeting, H.E. TOURAY had a working session with the envoy of the Russian Federation, Ms Tatiana Dovgalenko, Director of the Department of Partnership with Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting discussed the ongoing ECOWAS-Russia cooperation and the MoU between the two parties ready to be signed at a date and venue yet to be agreed. During the meeting Ms. Dovgalenko handed over an official invitation from the President of the Russian Federation H.E. Vladimir Putin addressed to H.E. Omar Alieu TOURAY inviting to participate in the 3rd Russia-Africa Summit to be held in Moscow on 28-29 October 2026.
