DescriptionThe ECOWAS Commission is organizing, from 27 to 31 July 2026 in Dakar, Senegal, the meeting of the Directors-General of the National Statistical Institutes (NSIs) of the Member States of the West African regional organization. The meeting forms part of the implementation of the ECOWAS Statistical Policy and the regional Statistical Harmonization and Improvement Projects (PHASAO and PHASAOC), which aim to strengthen the production of reliable, harmonized and comparable statistical data in support of regional integration.
The meeting will, in particular, review the progress made in implementing the recommendations of the previous meeting, assess the execution of the 2025 budget, validate the 2026 work programme and budget, and adopt several methodological guidelines and technical documents designed to strengthen the statistical capacities of Member States and support the Community's macroeconomic convergence process. The meeting brings together Directors-General of the National Statistical Institutes, experts from the ECOWAS Commission, as well as representatives of technical and financial partners, including the World Bank, the African Union, WAEMU, AFRISTAT, WAMA, AMAO, the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and Statistics Sweden.
