DescriptionThe Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), through its Department of Economic Affairs and Agriculture, with the support of partners including the Sahel and West Africa Club (SWAC/OECD), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), German Cooperation (GIZ), and TradeMark Africa, has launched a series of regional initiatives spanning trade, agriculture, investment, consumer protection, environment, and migration. The official launch of these initiatives took place on Tuesday, 28 April 2026 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, and was presided over by H.E. Hemore Sahr, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security of Sierra Leone. The ceremony was attended by H.E. Jean-Louis Moulot, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Education in charge of Technical Education, representing H.E. Adama Dosso, Minister Delegate to the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in charge of African Integration and Ivorians Abroad of Côte d’Ivoire; ECOWAS Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture, Mr Kalilou Sylla; sectoral Ministers from Nigeria, Ghana and The Gambia; as well as representatives of Member States, ECOWAS technical directors and experts, development partners, and private sector actors. The five key meetings, taking place from 27 April to 1 May 2026 in Abidjan, aim to deepen regional integration, strengthen the ECOWAS Common Market, promote investment, improve food and nutrition security, facilitate the safe movement of persons and goods, and support environmental sustainability across Member States.
