DescriptionThe ECOWAS Commission’s Directorate of Research and Statistics is organising two regional workshops in Abidjan from the 18th to 22nd August 2026, aimed at strengthening the production, quality and harmonisation of statistical data within the Community. These activities form part of the priorities for modernising statistical systems and are being carried out under the PHASAOC project, which aims to improve statistical performance, access to data and their use in Member States.
The first workshop, dedicated to migration statistics, will provide an opportunity to review and validate the third edition of the Regional Report on International Migration in West Africa and to promote the dissemination of disaggregated statistics, in accordance with the guidelines of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers. The second workshop will build the capacity of members of the National Coordination Committees and National Economic Policy Committees (CNC/CNPE) with a view to operationalising the Common Regional Frameworks for the compilation and publication of macroeconomic statistics, participants will also examine the updating of the ECOMAC and ECOBASE databases, as well as the harmonisation of national statistics (2000–2025) to ensure their comparability and reliability.
